As the name suggests, Low Starch Grower is for young, growing horses, from weaning onwards. Traditional feeds from grains and their by-products derive energy from high starch and Non Structural Carbohydrate (NSC) content. Research has shown such diets can favour the development of insulin resistance in the pregnant mare and the offspring. IN turn, insulin resistance may result in the higher rates of orthopaedic diseases like OCD in foals and yearlings.
This feed contains very low levels of starch, sugars and NSC. Abundant energy is instead drawn from oil and fibre, and combined with very high quality protein (containing key amino acids) and balanced levels of essential minerals and trace elements to safeguard against insulin resistance and the resulting developmental orthopaedic disease in young growing horses.
